Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update wouldn’t let Andrew Cuomo forget about his failed bid for mayor of New York.
The former New York governor, who lost to Zohran Mamdani in the June Democratic primary and again in the general election on Tuesday, had been endorsed by scandal-plagued incumbent mayor Eric Adams and Donald Trump.
“That’s like bringing a girl home and saying, ‘Not to brag, but I have Hepatitis B and C,” co-anchor Colin Jost joked.
Michael Che then trashed Cuomo for going around town in the final days before the election in a white Ford Bronco, even with its obvious connotations to O.J. Simpson.
“At least O.J. was ahead in the race for awhile,” Che joked.
Later, Jost mentioned how Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum was groped during a public appearance this week. Sheinbaum is pressing charges.
“So no, he’s not taking the loss well,” Jost joked a photo flashed on screen of Cuomo, who resigned as governor in 2021 amid allegations of sexual harassment from eleven women.
Another hot topic during the segment was the medical emergency during an Oval Office press conference this week—more specifically, how Donald Trump and Robert F. Kennedy each reacted to it.
When a pharmaceutical executive fainted, Kennedy quickly left the room.
“How suspicious is that? Such a weird move,” Jost commented. “Don’t worry, though; the man who collapsed is is okay. You can tell because if there’s something dead on the ground, RFK eats it.”
And as for Trump, who basically just stood there, Jost compared him to the meme of a cartoon dog in a fire-filled room saying, “This is fine.”
