“Three hospital visits,” actress says. “Multiple urologists and gynecologists. And not one of them seriously considered endometriosis as the underlying cause of what I was experiencing”
Lili Reinhart revealed her recent endometriosis diagnosis — and the long journey she took to get there.
The actress opened up on Instagram, where she posted photos of herself in the hospital. She said she was officially diagnosed last week following laparoscopic surgery. “Last year, I saw a urogynecologist and was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis,” she said. “I was told there was no cure — and no lasting relief — for my symptoms. Three hospital visits. Multiple urologists and gynecologists. And not one of them seriously considered endometriosis as the underlying cause of what I was experiencing.”
Reinhart worked with two pelvic floor therapists, had an MRI, and was diagnosed with adenomyosis. “At the same time,” she said, “Another gynecologist told me I ‘probably didn’t have endo’ and should just go on the pill. I’m glad I trusted my body and listened to my gut and will continue advocating for others to do so.”
On her Instagram story, Reinhart wrote that her goal was to “preserve fertility,” adding, “I still don’t understand how the 8-10 doctors I saw last year didn’t mention endometriosis while I was searching for answers. I’m grateful to the pelvic floor specialists who told me to look into this disease as a source of my pain.”
Reinhart broke through with her role as Betty Cooper in Riverdale, which ran for seven seasons and concluded in 2023. “I don’t have an assistant, nor do I want one,” she told Rolling Stone in 2018, upon the CW series’ third season. “I look forward to running errands like a normal person. I enjoy it.” This year, Reinhart starred in the thriller American Sweatshop and the TV series Hal & Harper.
