Actor let fans decide on a new middle name in 2018
Macaulay Culkin is a man of his word. After running a fan-voted poll in 2018 for his new middle name, the Home Alone star honored the winning vote and legally changed his name in 2019.
“My name is Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin,” the actor said during an event titled A Nostalgic Night With Macaulay Culkin in Long Beach this weekend. The event was in honor of the 35th anniversary of Home Alone. According to People, he explained further onstage about the poll and his legal change in 2019, dropping his original middle name Carson.
Back in 2018, Culkin announced the poll on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He ran the poll for the month of December on his former lifestyle website BunnyEars.com. There were five options for the new middle name including the winner Macaulay Culkin. The others were Shark Week, TheMcRibIsBack, Publicity Stunt, and Kieran (in honor of his younger brother).
“I was staring at my passport recently and stuff, and I was looking over my middle name,” Culkin told Fallon at the time. “And I felt like, you know, I should probably spruce up my name a little bit.”
Culkin announced the winning middle name on Christmas Day 2018, telling fans that he would change the name in 2019. This weekend was his first public confirmation that the legal name change had been done.
“The final vote was Macaulay Culkin,” he said to the crowd this weekend. “So my name is Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin. If somebody comes up to me at the airport and says, ‘Excuse me, are you Macaulay Culkin?’ I can say, ‘Well, Macaulay Culkin is my middle name.’”
