Matt Smith Stars in Nick Cave’s ‘Death of Bunny Munro’ Series Trailer

The trailer for the upcoming TV adaptation of Nick Cave‘s 2009 novel The Death of Bunny Munro is here. On Tuesday, Sky TV released the first look at the poignant Matt Smith-starring series, which is set to bring Cave’s dark comedy book to the small screen.

Smith will play the titular Bunny Munro, a sex-addicted door-to-door salesman and lothario, who embarks on a chaotic sales trip with his son following the death of his wife. In the new trailer, Bunny drives his son (played by Rafael Mathé) to a sales stop and teaches him what it takes to be a good salesman. “You’ve got to set yourself apart. You’ve got to have something they think they need,” says Bunny.

From the boy’s perspective, his father is “the best salesman in the world,” as the two go door-to-door selling fragrances, creams, and other products to women. Their new “routine” is disrupted when a social worker confronts Bunny, asking him if this kind of life is good for his kid. During a call, Smith discusses how his wife died “in the most tragic of circumstance” — suicide — and how, “right now, that boy needs his father.”

The trailer also features clips of Bunny’s son speaking to his mother’s spirit (played by Sarah Greene) as the two navigate their grief together and figure out what comes next. “Maybe we don’t have to be salesmen anymore,” Bunny says at the end of the trailer.

The series is set to feature six parts and will air on Nov. 20 on Sky TV and the UK streaming service Now. It’s unclear if or when it’ll reach United States audiences.

Writer Pete Jackson adapted the book, and Isabella Eklöf directed the series. Cave and Smith executive-produced the series, and Cave and Warren Ellis scored the series.
